The Center for Materials Sensing and Detection employs a unique combination of selected technologies to solve to problem of explosives detection in the environment. Established in 2002 and funded by the Department of Defense this Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative (MURI) brings together researchers from several divisions of Johns Hopkins, Stanford University, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and SRI International.

Four unique program areas address a range of fundamental, technical issues associated with trace detection of explosive related compounds.

JHU hosts LIBS workshop on Aug 5th and 6th, 2003.
